Live dealer Baccarat
Baccarat is a card game that is very populair in the United States and became populair in Europe because of several James Bond movies. The game of Baccarat is a very simple but entertaining card game, which is even more entertaining when you have a live dealer in front of you that is dealing the cards.
What is Baccarat?
In an online casino you play baccarat against the so called Banker (the live dealer). The game that is played online is the Punto Banco variation and it is the most populair variation played in ninety percent of all the (online) casinos. It is a pure casino game, because as a player you can not affect the game play, nor can the live dealer – the banker – influence the game because all the cards have a set game play.
Playing Baccarat with a live dealer
In playing Punto Banco you can bet on the cards of the Player (Punto), the Banker (Banco) or bet on a tie; where the player and banker have the same card value. It is advisory not to bet on a tie, since the winning odds are lower and however the pay out odds are also higher it is smarter to bet on the player or the banker. Both the Player and Banker get two cards after betting.
The game of Baccarat consisits out of the cards two to nine, the ten, jack, queen, king and ace. The ace has a value of 1, the cards two to nine have the same value as the card and the ten, jack, queen and king have a value of zero. While playing a game of Baccarat it is the purpose to get a value of nine (a so called ‘Natural’), or as close as possible to nine. While a Blackjack means you have the best hand possible in Blackjack, Baccarat means that you have the worst hand possible in Baccarat; your hand than has a value of 0.
You can count the value of your hand by adding up all the values of your cards. If this value consists out of two digits, only the last digit counts. So for example; if you get a 8 and 6, the total value of your cards is 14 but you have to leave out the first digit so your hand value is 4.
Whether the live dealer will give a third card or not depends on what cards are dealt to the player and the banker. If the players has a hand value of zero to five, the live dealer will deal you a third card. If the hand value is six or seven, the dealer will not give you a third card and if the hand value is eight or nine, neither the player or the banker gets a third card.
This is the same for the hand value of the banker; if the banker has a hand value of zero to two he gets a third card. If the banker has a hand value of three to six it depends on the cards of the player whether the banker gets a third card. If the banker has a hand value of seven he will not get a third card and if the hand value is eight or nine neither the banker or the player gets a third card.
